"Jim"Estelle UnitLocation: 264 FM 3478,Huntsville, TX 77320Pay:Starting at $18.00/hrWorkschedule: Full-time; 8-hourdaysBenefit packageincludes:Health/dental/vision/lifeinsurance401(k) with companymatch -Paid time offPaid holidays (9total)Professional developmentassistanceOpportunity for jobadvancementJobresponsibilities: Substance Abuse Counselor Internsperform moderately complex substance abuse counseling work withinSubstance Abuse Felony Punishment Facility (SAFPF) / In-PrisonTherapeutic Community (IPTC) programs. Work involves planning,coordinating, and implementing substance abuse counselingactivities; and coordinating with other departments to ensure themaximum utilization of resources available for chemical dependencytreatment and rehabilitation in compliance with Management &Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice(TDCJ) directives.Essentialfunctions:Provides substance abusecounseling and recovery skills training; participates in offenderorientation, educational and individual and process counselinggroups in compliance with program standards, guidelines, policies,and procedures.Maintain a therapeutic community (TC) within thefacility working closely with correctional staff to create a livingenvironment that is peer driven.Interviews, screens, and evaluatesoffenders for potential programparticipation.Provides a comprehensive evaluation from a battery ofvalid measurement tools to assess the recovery needs and there-offense risk of offenders.Participates in the IndividualTreatment Plan based on the severity and characteristics of theoffender as determined by the comprehensive assessment, review ofcollateral information, and the Clinicalinterview.Maintains offender records and other records regardingservices provided to include workload statistics; and compiles dataand submits reports and related documentation asappropriate.Implements follow-up and after care plans for offendersthat participate in the program prior to their release; anddisseminates information on community resources for offenderplacement in follow-up treatment.At the conclusion of the program,an Individual Progress Summary will be developed for each offenderon caseload to reflect the evaluation results together withcomments about the offender's level of participation and quality ofcompletion in the SAFPF / IPTCprograms.Submit copy of the Individual Progress Summary to theParole Division to be included in the Parole CaseSummary. -Coordinate or participate in transitionmeetings.Promote the development and positive social skillsthrough modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening wheninappropriate behaviors are observed. Provide regular feedback tostaff regarding social skills procedures and interventiontechniques.Maintain accountability of staff, offenders andproperty. Adhere to safetypractices.It is expected that the incumbentshall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilitiesas determined by management.Positionrequirements:Graduation from an accreditedsenior high school, GED, orequivalent. - -Must have a letter of registrationas a -Licensed Chemical Dependency -Counselor Intern(LCDC-I orCI) or a Licensed Chemical DependencyCounselor (LCDC) license from theTexas Department of State Health Services or current certificationas Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional Applicant(CCJP-A) or a Certified CriminalJustice Addictions Professional Applicant(CCJP) as approved by the TexasCertification Board of AddictionProfessionals.Selected applicants must obtain the Licensed ClinicalDependency Counselor (LCDC) license or the Certified CriminalJustice Professional (CCJP) certification within five years fromthe date of their registration as a Counselor Intern orCCJP-A.Must sign a Credential Contingency Agreement that willremain in effect only until the initially established expirationdate. Failure to comply with this contingency statement will resultin separation from employment. Credential Contingency Agreementswill not be extended or renewed as a result of an employee'sseparation from employment or acceptance of anotherposition.Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with anacceptable driving record required, unless waived bymanagement.Post hirerequirements: Must successfully complete annualin-service training requirements and pass an annual backgroundcheck, both of which must be approved by Texas Department ofCriminal Justice. Must maintain valid CounselorIntern status (CI), Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC)license or Certified Criminal Justice ProfessionalApplicant (CCJP-A)certification for continued employment inposition.Why:The job is simple.
