The Texas A&M University Cyclotron Institute, a Department of Energy University Facility, is jointly supported by DOE and the State of Texas and is a major technical and educational resource for the state and the nation. At the Institute, we focus on conducting basic research, educating students in accelerator-based science and technology, and providing technical capabilities for a wide variety of applications in space science, materials science, analytical procedures and nuclear medicine. What you need to know

COVID-19 information: Texas A&M University monitors and updates our recruiting, hiring and onboarding processes to align with local, state and federally mandated health guidelines to keep employees, prospective employees, and visitors as safe as possible. Each department has established both remote and in-person procedures for conducting these processes, which include sanitizing common spaces, a mask policy, and maintaining safe physical distancing to the extent possible. Departments will provide the procedures to be followed at each step of the recruiting process.

Required Education and Experience:

+ Ability to solder and good trouble shooting skills

+ Ability to use all types of electronic test equipment

+ Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

+ Bachelor's degree

+ 8 years' experience in a field relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the assignment. (Master's degree is equivalent to two years of experience)

Preferred Education and Experience:

+ Bachelors degree in Electronic Technology or Electrical Engineering

+ Experience working on High voltage and high current power supplies, High power RF systems and microwave amplifiers, 3 phase 480 vac and switch gear

+ Vacuum and cryogenic systems, heat exchangers and LCW systems. Instrumentation used to support operations

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

+ Ability to soft solder, silver solder, good mechanical skills

+ Familiar with all types of equipment used in Cyclotron operations


+ Designs and constructs equipment, and repairs equipment needed for Cyclotron operations

+ Performs testing all equipment to ensure proper operation.

+ Works with operations staff to ensure proper repairs and maintenance are done on a daily basis

+ Assists the Accelerator Techs on duty with current machine problems as needed at all times

+ Works with research staff on special projects as needed

+ Performs other duties as assigned
