What we want

This Library Specialist II is responsible providing front desk coverage and assistance to patrons for both Evans and Annex Ask Us Desks Monday through Friday. Directs users to appropriate departments, knowledgeably explains library policies and procedures and resolves general problems. Works collaboratively with other library support staff to troubleshoot and resolve unit-specific problems.

What you need to know

Work Schedule: Hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. Must be able to adjust schedule on an occasional basis to help cover during extended hours or in the event of an emergency. Requires extensive bending and reaching.

Required Education and Experience:

+ High School graduation or any equivalent combination of education and experience

+ Three years of library experience

+ 30 or more higher education credit hours may substitute for one year of library experience

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

+ Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

+ General knowledge of library services and functions

+ Good interpersonal skills

+ Excellent communication and customer service skills

+ Conflict resolution skills

+ Knowledge of email, word processing, spreadsheets and library online research database searches and/or processing

+ Reliable attendance

Other Requirements:

+ Ability to lift or move medium weight boxes, books or similar items, push a heavy book truck

+ Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores

+ Ability to extensively view a computer screen and use a computer keyboard and mouse/trackball type of point-and-click device

+ Ability to move throughout the buildings, including narrow aisles and small study rooms

+ Requires the ability to operate key and numeric keypad door locking systems

Responsibilities:

+ Desk Operations - Provides routine front desk coverage for both the Annex and Evans Library Ask Us Desks during assigned hours. Provides routine assistance in accessing resources. Uses library computer system to charge/discharge materials to users. Demonstrates conflict resolution skills with users. Assists student workers in confrontational or hostile situations. Serves as a back up to opening the building Monday Friday. Serves as a back up to opening both service desks.

+ Unit Operations & Voyager Reporting Support - Provides basic technical support relevant to Public Services with maintenance, updating and monitoring of existing systems (including but not limited to Voyager, SearchDesk, Financial Database, and Public Laptops). Provides basic troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures; reviews standard practices for opportunities to enhance services, simplify processes, uses resources more efficiently, and collaborate with others. Responsible for adding/delete users from SysAdmin. Checking & restoring laptops that have been charged out to Systems for repairs. Placing all service tickets on desktop and laptop computers for AskUs services. Responsible for coordinating service desk activities when the Library s Integrated System is down. This includes providing preloaded flash drives with templates, coordinate data entry of transactions, clean drives after data entries, report problem accounts to Assistant Director. CircAdministrator for the Libraries integrated system (Voyager) for the purpose of resetting yearly passwords, creating the calendar and reviewing matrices. . Learns and uses Voyager reporting functions, databases and spreadsheet software to generate appropriate reports to assist with the transition to the new library integrated system (FOLIO- Future of Libraries is Open).. Assist with reporting data generated from other operational systems.

+ Technical Troubleshooting & Collaboration - Provides customer support and troubleshooting for Public Services using technology (wireless, laptops, Public PC logon, Shelf Check machines, etc).; meets with customers and technical staff to determine information needs and requirements; ensures that all work is accurate and in compliance with departmental or project quality standards. Collaborates with DI unit and other technical services as needed, assisting them as requested with organization-wide or unit-specific problems; seeks the help of other IT staff to resolve technical issues. Attends library and unit meetings, training sessions, and diversity events as appropriate. Provides best service possible to library users through participatory decision-making and implementation of operations and guidelines. Supports quality of work life initiatives.

+ Emergency Response - Responds and takes appropriate action when security and/or fire alarms are set off or other building crises occur. Facilitates safe evacuation, implements administrative Call Tree, and performs post event department checks, as appropriate.

+ Other - Performs other duties as assigned.
