The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty position (Tenure-Track Assistant professor or Tenured Associate Professor) in small animal surgical oncology on an 11-month appointment with an anticipated start date in Spring 2021.

The successful candidate will devote 40-50% time to clinical instruction and patient care in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Clinical duties and continued development of the oncology service will be shared with 3 medical oncologists, 2 radiation oncologists, 2 other surgeons (non-fellowship trained), and house officers. Clinical responsibilities will include primary management of cases, instruction of veterinary students, mentorship of interns and residents (surgical and oncologic), and participation in after-hours surgical emergency coverage. Additionally, we expect the successful tenure track candidate will develop an independent and collaborative research program, focused on the fields of oncology, surgery, and translational biology. The remaining time will be devoted to classroom and laboratory teaching, the development of expertise in novel surgical procedures, and academic service.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital is a spacious facility with sophisticated diagnostic and patient care equipment, including two modern digital radiography suites equipped with PACS image storage, eFilm and OrthoviewVet templating software; complete arthroscopy capabilities; two intraoperative fluoroscopy units; surgical microscopy, image-guidance, a cavitronic ultrasonic aspirator, and a 40 slice CT, 3T MRI, and CT Tomotherapy unit onsite. In addition, nuclear scintigraphy, force-plate and kinematic gait analysis, and laboratories are available to facilitate development of novel procedures and treatments. The hospital maintains Mimics and Echopixel licenses for three-dimensional reconstruction, with easy access to 3D printers. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with over 50 faculty members in the small animal hospital, and approximately 48 interns and residents in the other medical and surgical services in the department.

An applicant must hold a DVM or equivalent veterinary degree and must be a Diplomate of the American or European Colleges of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS/ECVS). Additionally, applicants must have completed or be in the process of completing a surgical oncology fellowship registered with ACVS. Applicants must be licensed or eligible for regular or special licenses to practice veterinary medicine in Texas.
