What we want The Advanced Practice Provider, under direction, is responsible for providing primary health care to students at Texas A & M University. Also this is a security-sensitive position, and as a result the individual in this position is required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by HIPAA regulations and in accordance with the A & M System policy. Therefore the person serving in this position is required to complete HIPAA training as a condition of employment, within a reasonable time frame after the individual's employment, and on an as-needed basis thereafter. Required Education and Experience: Successful completion of an accredited educational program for Physician Assistants, or successful completion of an approved Advanced Practice Nurse program at or beyond the master's degree level. No experience required Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality Ability to apply modern techniques of medicine Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to exert moderate force and lift or move moderately heavy objects Ability to complete HIPAA training as a condition of employment, within a reasonable time frame after the individual's employment, and on an as-needed basis thereafter Required Licenses, Certifications and Registrations: Eligible to be licensed in the State of Texas as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Nurse Practitioner); candidate must be licensed prior to start date Licensure must be maintained for continued employment Preferred Experience: Two years of experience in Women's or Family health Previous experience in a college health setting Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of ICD 10 and CPT billing and coding principles and procedures Knowledge of electronic medical records software, including PnC Knowledge of medical treatment resources in the community Preferred Licenses, Certifications and Registrations: NCCPA certification (Physician Assistants) or Board Certified in Family or Women's Health Care (Nurse Practitioners) DEA registration BLS certification Responsibilities: Provision of Care Provides primary health care to students, which includes: medical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications or treatments, counseling or education regarding health maintenance and disease/injury prevention, and promotion of healthy lifestyles Recognizes the need for consultation and/or referral for illness/injury outside the scope of practice/expertise for an advanced nurse practitioner or physician assistant EMR and Compliance Completes legible, accurate, and appropriate documentation of patients' encounters in medical records in a timely manner Acts in accordance with all relevant licensing boards, local, state and federal laws regulating nurse practitioners or physician assistants Participates in continuing medical education and in-service activities as appropriate Administrative : Serves on clinical committees as assigned Participates in accreditation activities Assists in preparation of educational materials Performs other duties as assigned Instructions to Applicants: Applications received by Texas A & M University and TAMHSC, must either have all job application data entered or a resume attached.
