Learn more about our five libraries at ************************ What we want The Library Specialist I is responsible for providing basic circulation and front desk coverage for Business Library and Collaboration Commons. Performing excellent customer service at the front desk to promote customer satisfaction. Assists in monitoring the student production crew for campus library courier and for Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery requests from Evans, PSEL, and MSL. Ensures that patrons are notified to pick-up delivered items. We need an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. Required Education and Experience: - High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. 30 or more higher education credit hours may substitute for one year of library experience - One year of related library experience Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others - Excellent communication and customer service skills - Keyboarding skills - Knowledge of email, word processing spreadsheets and internet searches - Good interpersonal skills - Reliable attendance Other Requirements or Other Factors: - Must be able to work Monday - Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm with 30 minute lunch break - Must be able to adjust schedule on an occasional basis to help cover during extended hours or in the event of an emergency - Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items - Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Conflict resolution skills. Ability to exercise discretion in interpreting guidelines and decision-making Responsibilities: - Provides basic Circulation Services, including group study room reservations and checking out/in materials. Maintains a front desk operations atmosphere that promotes customer satisfaction. Learns and uses general knowledge of all TAMU Libraries' units, directs users to appropriate units. Explains library policies and procedures with a thorough understanding and knowledge of said policies and procedures; refers to appropriate supervisor when necessary. - Monitors the front doors. Enforces the food/drink policy. Makes rounds, monitors activities in the building, and straightens public areas. Documents emergencies/mishaps/unusual situations and acts as proctor in the event of an emergency. Solves routine equipment malfunction problems. - Helps solve basic customer problems and answers complaints from customers as they arise. Documents and brings serious procedural or customer dissatisfaction issues to the attention of the Library Manager. Assists with coordinating the Recycling in the building. - Assists in monitoring the student production crew for campus library courier and for Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery requests from Evans, PSEL, and MSL. Unpacks materials and assists in the distribution of items from the two courier runs of the day between campus locations. Notifies patrons pick-up delivered items, includes delivery of item. - Assists in ensuring that the AM Courier run is done correctly and that materials are picked up and distributed to the correct areas in Evans, MSL and PSEL. Distributes incoming mail. Processes incoming bound journals Ensures that incoming newspapers are tracked, processed and recycled, when needed. - Assists in promoting the effectiveness of the Business Library and Collaboration Commons in a variety of ways that may include working in other areas of Access Services. Ensures that customer service standards are met. Effectively interacts with a diverse population of students, staff and faculty. Participates in staff and task force meetings, planning for and evaluation of services, and other activities related to BLCC. Performs other duties as assigned.
