Job Description:
At Amazon Key, we are on a mission to empower customers to
easily manage access to their homes and businesses. As part of the
Amazon Devices and Ring organization, we invent new devices,
software, and services to solve critical access problems for our
B2C and B2B customers. As an SDM III on the Amazon Key team, you
would be responsible for the Platform services supporting various
programs. You would also be responsible for influencing the product
to include scalable engineering architecture on which all products
are built. Additionally, you would be in charge of career
progression, mentoring, and coaching of engineers. This role
involves working alongside multiple teams within Amazon Key and
Ring. Key job responsibilities - Working with product, hardware,
TPM, and development teams to understand product vision and
requirements - You independently manage a team of SDEs. You hire
the right mix of SDEs to accomplish team goals. You are able to
assess SDE performance. You are able to hire, develop and promote
SDEs. - You define the strategic vision for your team, partnering
effectively with customers and stakeholders. - You are independent
in decision-making. You define clear goals and objectives. - Your
team has an effective development process and consistently delivers
software with minimal defects and system disruption. - You
proactively identify risks and bring them to the attention of your
manager, customers, and stakeholders with plans for mitigation
before they become roadblocks. - You communicate ideas effectively,
both verbally and in writing, to all types of audiences. - You work
successfully with customers, leaders, and other engineering teams.
You foster a constructive dialogue, harmonize discordant views, and
lead the resolution of contentious issues (influence and build
consensus). A day in the life A day in the life of an SDM III at
Amazon Key involves leading engineering teams, architecting
platform solutions, reviewing technical designs, mentoring team
members, and collaborating with stakeholders to drive innovative
access management solutions. About the team Amazon Key is a
globally dispersed team driving catered access solutions in both a
B2B and B2C landscape. Our organizational makeup is comprised of
hardware and software engineers, product management, customer

innovation. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - 5 years of engineering team
management experience - 7 years of working directly within
engineering teams experience - 5 years of designing or architecting
(design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing
systems experience - 8 years of leading the definition and
development of multi tier web services experience - Knowledge of
engineering practices and patterns for the full
software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding
standards, code reviews, source control management, build
processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations -
Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Experience in communicating with users,
other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect
requirements, describe software product features, technical
designs, and product strategy - Experience in recruiting, hiring,
mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to
improve their skills, and make them more effective, product
