Now as part of the Texas A&M University System, TVMDL has grown to include two full-service laboratories and two poultry laboratories serving veterinarians, livestock producers, and government agencies across the state and world. TVMDL has proudly served Texas as the state veterinary diagnostic laboratory for over 50 years. In addition to their history of excellence, TVMDL has also made positive contributions to diagnostic testing, veterinary medicine, and disease surveillance, ensuring future Texans and other stakeholders are safe for years to come.Annually, TVMDL performs over 900,000 tests from every state and approximately 17 countries. Each day, TVMDL tests hundreds of samples in an effort to protect our clients' pets, livelihood, and Texas' 18 billion dollar livestock and poultry industries. Each office is furnished with a sit to stand desk and ergonomic chair.If this sounds like your kind of place, apply today.General DescriptionThe Systems Administrator IV, under direction, provides technical leadership, and oversight for the design, deployment and delivery of enterprise-wide systems and services. Participates in mentoring, training, and developing other employees. Coordinates the technical activities of a systems administration support team. Completes reports and summaries for management and users including project status reports, problem reports, and audit findings.
      • Provides technical guidance and oversight for server windows/Linux administration. Sets-up and configures large and complex servers, develops complex system logic and configuration, and conducts complex server performance analyses and tuning. Coordinates routine audits of systems and software.
        • Oversees administration of Active Directory, VMware and SAN/NAS storage.
          • Oversees and coordinates the analysis of system logs. Helps coordinate and monitor the problem management process to include backup support. Troubleshoots with other groups' complex network problems. Provides Tier III support when needed.
            • Installs, configures, and manages cloud infrastructure systems on AWS; supports cloud servers including networking, security configurations, patching, backups and troubleshooting
              • Develops scripts for automating client/server functions
                • Provides technical oversight for the development of plans for large server hardware and software purchases. Develops specifications and plans for large and complex cloud deployments or purchases of server hardware.
                  • Oversees the process used to document server support methods, procedures, and configuration.
                    • Creates, evaluates, and approves plans for the implementation of new technology deployments and system integration testing.
                      • Oversees the maintenance of system security for protecting and recovering data. Develops disaster recovery plans for complex systems.
                        • Collaborates with the project leader to develop work plans and time schedules for projects including outlining phases, identifying personnel, and computing equipment requirements.This document represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. Other duties may be assigned.Client CommunicationCommunicate with clients requesting technical assistance.Quality Assurance & SafetyLead by example in regard to quality assurance and safety activities amongst IT staff. Assist in resolving issues of noncompliance and nonconformance. Assist section managers with audits and visits by external clientele and agencies.SOPs, Procedures, Forms, Other DocumentationMay write, review and/or edit quality assurance documents (SOPs, procedures, workflows, forms, etc.), ensuring proper formatting, content, and compliance with quality assurance requirements. May serve as editor of documents in the quality assurance system. May draft SOPs and other required documentation for new departmental procedures. Prepare reports on special assignments.Research, Reference Materials, DevelopmentResearch and catalog reference materials. Assist in researching new technologies.Administrative DutiesCreate and maintain appropriate documentation for all projects. Complete work orders as assigned and document fixes or changes. May recommend policies and procedures.Training & MentorshipCross train in duties with other IT staff. Mentor and/or provide training to junior administrators and support staff. Provide back up to IT staff in event of absence.Teamwork & CooperationFoster teamwork, cooperation, professional standards, and communication. May participate in flex scheduling, including work prior to 8 AM, after 5 PM, on weekends or on holidays. Participate in cross training with fellow IT staff.OtherWork shall be performed with adherence to federal, state, Texas A&M University System, and TVMDL safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Perform work in such a way as to not expose others or myself to hazards that are avoidable by reasonable and approved methods.Education and Experience:
                          • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
                          • Eight years of related experience.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
                            • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of IT architecture, application of systems theory, advanced negotiation skills, enterprise-level operations, multi-team leadership and coordination, advanced project management, sourcing, advanced vendor relations, advanced business acumen, change management, and knowledge of the IT industry.
                            • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.Preferred:Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations: AWS SysOps Administrator, AWS DevOps Engineer, Azure Architect, MCSE, CCNAKnowledge: Knowledge of cloud architect, virtualization, networking, system administration, server hardware, automation, problem-solving, incident management and the Information Technology Interface Library (ITIL). Knowledge of quality assurance methodologies and security best practices.Skills: Deployment, migration and management of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Windows/Linux/SQL administration, VMWare, Active Directory including DNS/DHCP/DFS, SAML/SSO, Scripting/PowerShell, Networking/Firewall, Backups, and NAS/SAN Storage.Abilities: Must be able to cooperate with others in a collaborative team environment. Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills. Must be able to travel independently.All positions are security-sensitive.
