Who we are
The Provost IT Office provides information technology support for
the Provost Office and all units that report to the Provost except
for academic and Division of Information Technology units and
offices. The Provost IT Office services 48 offices. PITO is
responsible for the management of IT operations and provides IT
services and support, information system design, IT consultation,
project management, IT security reviews, and IT contracts and
vendor management. The office manages and maintains more than 1,400
desktops across 13 buildings on campus. Through Instructional Media
Services, the department supports AV in 181 classrooms and 22
conference rooms in 35 buildings across Texas A&M.

Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of education
- Two years of related experience in database architecture and

as determined by supervisor (in cases of critical system upgrades,
critical system support, and/or the timely completion of major
information technology projects)
- SQL Server, Oracle, MySql, and Mainframe experience.
Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, SSIS, T-SQL, PL/SQL, Tableau,
- Database Development & Testing - Write, update, and test T-SQL
queries and joins. Designing and modifying normalized databases.
Programming and testing changes to views, stored procedures, and
functions. Developing new and modifying existing data extraction,
transformation, and loading (ETL) processes using SQL Server
Integration Services (SSIS). Write and update reports. Develop and
test using database tools: SQL Server Management Studio, Microsoft
Visual Studio, and Red Gate Deployment tools.
- Database Administration - Synchronize and migrate data and
database objects between development, quality assurance, and
production environments using database synchronization tools.
Perform SQL query tuning. Assist lead database administrators with
activities associated with the installation, management, security,
database backup/recovery, and operation of database platforms. Use
database administration tools SQL Server Management Studio, SQL
Server Profiler, and Red Gate Database tools.
- Requirements Analysis - Consult with customers to gather and
analyze business requirements (work items) for designing database
reports, objects, and storage. Track work items according to
- Procedures & Reports - Utilize internal system and database
standards. Document database designs, functions, procedures,
deployments, and ETL packages. Follow internal project and change
management procedures. Complete reports and summaries for
management and/or users including status reports, problem reports,
progress summaries, and system utilization reports.
- Client & Technology Support - Establish business relationships
with both internal and external clients. Attend meetings. Answer
questions and provide technical guidance and/or training to clients
to ensure the success of databases and database applications.
- Professional Development - Learn new advancements in database
technologies, database development techniques, and work processes
as directed by supervisor. Keep current in growth as a professional
database administrator through a combination of reading online
blogs and articles, watching videos and seminars; reading books;
conversing with fellow database administrators; and instructor led
training. Perform other duties as assigned.
