Who we are

The Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) department is responsible for the mission-critical, enterprise-wide information systems at Texas A&M University. The team manages the student information system for the university's three campuses in College Station, Galveston, and Qatar. EIS maintains and enhances the "Howdy" web portal serving as the "front door" for student information system content and more. Howdy currently allows Texas A&M University students, applicants, faculty, staff, parents and former students to use a single sign-on to access web-based campus services.

What we want

Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) is seeking a Software Applications Developer II to assist with web development related to the custom graduate student Academic Requirements Completion System (ARCS) and any other web development projects needing our service. The individual in this position should be a self-starter possessing internal initiative and motivation to serve the software needs of our Howdy users. Howdy is a web portal based in Java. Banner 9 web applications are based in Grails/Grails. High fluency in Angular is desired. The successful candidate will excel at collaborating with other team members and partnering with functional stakeholders to develop complete software solutions.

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Three years of software applications developer experience
  
  Preferred Education and Experience:
  
  • 
    
  • Master's degree in MIS, Computing Science or related field
  • More than three years of professional experience as an enterprise-level Java EE web application full stack developer
  • Experience working with the Banner student information system and the uPortal portal framework
  • Experience with Spring, Hibernate, and PL/SQL. Experience with Groovy/Grails, JSP's and/or GSP's, web services, HTML, Angular, CSS, and familiarity with SQL queries

          Responsibilities:
          
          • 
            
          • Develop specifications, based upon customer input requirements and convert into thorough design documents
          • Create complex design documents
          • Assist project leader with developing work plan and time schedules for computing projects, including outlining phases and identifying personnel and computing equipment requirements
          • Aids in providing technical project direction
          • Write, update, maintain, test and rewrite complex computer programs, websites, and web applications that insert, update, select, and display information from databases
          • Develop applications for student information system (Banner), and web portal (Luminis and uPortal) using various technologies such as Java, Groovy, SQL, PL/SQL, JQuery, Angular, Javascript, HTML, and CSS
          • Review, design, code, debug and test complex programs, program modifications or applications
          • Assist project leader with developing work plan and time schedules for computing projects including outlining phases and identifying personnel and computer equipment requirements
          • Evaluate software products, projects, and programming languages to determine their applicability to a specific system and/or project
          • Review and analyze software documentation and production results to facilitate problem resolutions
          • May coordinate the technical activities of a small project team. Assist and mentor other employees in resolving various issues
          • Participate with management personnel in planning, direction, and coordinating operational and/or procedural matters to meet goals and objectives
          • May produce reports and summaries for management and/or users including status reports, problem reports, progress summaries, and system utilization reports
          • Participate in change management and problem tracking
          • Confer with users to review project plans and schedules, secure approval of test results and discuss problems or concerns
          • Perform all or some of the specialized duties of a Software Applications Developer
          • Participate in training and professional development sessions
          • Review and analyze software documentation and production results to facilitate problem resolution
