Who we are

The Office of Learning Technology Services (OLTS) provides information technology support to meet the online teaching technology needs of the university. OLTS is responsible for the management and operations of the learning management system, video streaming system, custom applications, and third-party vendor applications that integrate into the LMS. The office works closely with the individual colleges and remote campuses in providing teaching technology services for faculty and students in order to enhance teaching and learning initiatives of the university.

The Office of Learning Technology Services is looking for a Database Administrator III to serve as a technical lead for data management and administration of the University's Learning Management System (LMS), including any data connections to external tools or technologies within the on-line classroom. Required Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years of related experience in database architecture and administration

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications
    • Knowledge of advanced analysis, troubleshooting, and problem solving
    • Client relations skills
    • Requirement assessment and analysis skills
    • Project management methodology, context, and interrelationships knowledge
    • Knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
    • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

      Preferred Education and Experience:

      • Experience managing databases in a higher education setting

        Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

        • Knowledge of managing databases residing in Cloud solutions such as Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS)

          Responsibilities:

          • Learning Management System (LMS) Database Administrator - Leads, as part of a highly skilled team, the effective implementation and ongoing maintenance of the LMS and all supporting tools, content, and technologies as they relate to the creation and storing of data. Writes, updates, and test complex T-SQL queries and joins. Implements, designs, and modifies normalized databases. Implements programs and tests changes to views, stored procedures, and functions. Coordinates the maintenance and upgrades of LMS databases. Synchronizes and migrates data and database objects between development, quality assurance, and production environments using database synchronization tools. Performs SQL query tuning. Utilizes project management to ensure successful development/implementation of course tools within the LMS, including building-level apps, and LTI configurations. Coordinates database performance monitoring activities. Provides technical oversight for the LMS, ensures compliance with technical standards, and troubleshoots complex database issues as they relate to the LMS.
          • Database Requirements Analysis - Consults with LMS clients and stakeholders to gather and analyze business requirements (work items) for designing database reports, objects, and storage. Tracks work items according to internal procedures. Coordinates the evaluation of new technologies and makes recommendations.
          • Procedures, Reports & Documentation - Follows internal system and database standards. Completes reports and summaries for management and users including project status reports, problem reports, and progress summaries. Documents database designs, functions, procedures, deployments, and ETL packages. Follows internal project and change management procedures. Completes reports and summaries for management and/or users including status reports, problem reports, progress summaries, and system utilization reports. Documents all project and task activity using the appropriate tools (i.e. service desk, project management, knowledge base, etc.).
          • Client & Technology Support - Establishes business relationships with both internal and external clients. Attend meetings, answer questions, and provide technical guidance and/or training to clients to ensure the success of databases and database applications. Occasionally work outside regularly scheduled hours in cases of system upgrades, system support, and/or the timely completion of major information technology projects.
          • Other - Performs other duties as assigned.
