Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY
Performs components of physical therapy procedures and related
tasks selected by a supervising physical therapist; assist physical
therapists in providing services that help improve mobility,
relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities
of patients suffering from injuries or disease.POSITION
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Administers therapeutic exercises and physical therapy
modalities according to the physical therapy plan of care2.
Instructs, motivates and Assists patients to learn and improve
functional activity, such as pre-ambulation, transfer, ambulation
and daily living activities3. Observes patients during treatments,
Assesses, and compiles data on patients' responses to treatments
and progress and reports verbally or in writing to the physical
therapist; may communicate updates to physicians4. Fit patients
for, adjusts, and trains patients in the use and care of orthopedic
braces, prostheses, and supportive devices, such as crutches,
canes, walkers and wheelchairs5. May perform clerical duties6.
Promotes and Supports positive and professional customer service,
while interacting with clients, guests and hospital personnel.
Works collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary
team, other departments and disciplines to assure patients and
customer's needs are met in a timely manner. Encourages the active
participation of the patient and/or family in goal setting and
patient/family training/education7. Provides positive and
constructive feedback to enhance departmental operations. Completes
all necessary documentation as outlined by departmental policy and
documentation review. This includes, but is not limited to, patient
care charting, charge entry, completing peer chart and peer
reviews, and documenting on daily schedule8. Utilizes available
information management systems to support departmental and hospital
goals. This includes utilization of hospital wide e-mail,
information announcements, policies, annual computer mandatories,
charge entry, and accessing patient care related information.
Access and use of information will meet hospital and information
management guidelines
Qualifications
Required Education and Licensure:
*Associate's Degree from an approved program for Physical Therapist
Assistants*Current Texas State Licensure (PTA)*American Heart
Association CPR/BLS certification
Minimum Experience
*Graduates eligible for licensure will be considered
Preferred Experience
*sports medicine, kinesiology or orthopedic background
