    This role will support the Bariatric Program Medical Director by assisting with coordination of pre-op visits, post-op patient education calls, conducting Bariatric seminars, and assisting with program accreditation. -


    The Bariatric Coordinator RN will work closely with the Bariatric Program Medical Director and other clinicians with the care of bariatric patients. The coordinator will be responsible in preparing for, acquiring, and maintaining accreditation for SWMC while working in collaboration with individual site bariatric program coordinators at different BSWHealth facilities. The Bariatric Coordinator RN leads, directs, and negotiates through collaboration with physicians and staff to promote care delivery that ensures efficiency, cost effectiveness, and expected clinical outcomes at SWMC. The coordinator also provides specialized nursing knowledge and expertise functioning as a clinician, educator, researcher and consult to medical/nursing staff, patients and families. The coordinator will act as a resource person to all patient care areas regarding bariatric care in addition to the various regional advisory councils and statewide bariatric collaborative.



    In conjunction with the Bariatric Medical Director is responsible for the development of the Bariatric Program

    Sets priorities for primary bariatric center development, initiates and manages operations associated with facilitating performance improvement teams and serves as a system liaison for bariatric program related issues

    Leads multidisciplinary team efforts to identify clinical problems and needs

    Designs processes to implement and manage patient transitions through the system pre- and post- discharge

    Facilitates meetings between members of the bariatric team to ensure bariatric program development and success

    Performs duties in an independent, effective manner and efficiently manages time and responsibilities

    Evaluates and ensures compliance with all MBSAQIP & Joint Commission requirements for bariatric center accreditation


    Makes rounds on bariatric patients and works with case management/physicians/staff to coordinate bariatric care

    Performs daily and concurrent review of patients treated with bariatric protocols for adherence, performance and outcomes

    Assists with data collection and analysis of data

    Actively champions bariatric care initiatives throughout the organization

    Represents bariatric area of specialization on departmental and hospital committees and task forces

    Assures delivery of "Best Practice Standards" for Bariatric Care


    Will maintain active membership on a regional advisory councils

    Remains up-to-date on nationally accepted bariatric care guidelines through the Joint Commission, MBSAQIP and Get With the Guidelines through participation in research and education

    Collaborates with other healthcare facilities & EMS agencies with bariatric care education and accreditation guidelines

    Acts as a resource person to all patient care areas regarding nursing care as related to the bariatric patient

    Ensures bariatric care personnel and bariatric Team/Committee members obtain and maintain required competencies
